Easter and another busy week

This past week, we had an Easter Egg hunt for Ainsley here at the house. We also colored eggs. The Easter baskets were from Great Grandmother (GG). I think Ainsley liked not having to worry about the other kids and not having to count how many eggs she was finding to make sure she didn't get too many. After all the candy was in (from mother's day out, Levy church, family, etc.), we let her keep some and trade the rest for a new train (Percy) for her Thomas tracks.

Asher learned some new tricks today. He waved to me for awhile when he was in his swing (he loves to go outside--if I open the back door and don't take him out, he gets upset). When we came inside he pulled himself up to standing. He looks so proud of himself when he learns new tricks--he seems completely aware when he has accomplished something new. He pulled himself up on a Rubbermaid container, the window sill, and a little chair that we have.

Some of you may know that we took Asher to a neurosurgeon in December because his head grew flat on one side probably from how he laid when he was a tiny baby. They said his deformity was borderline, but recommended getting him a cranial molding helmet. We have been going back and forth with our insurance company since then--I won't link to them because I don't have anything nice to say about them! They do not know what they are doing and have been stringing me along for 4 months! They make it so you really don't have a choice but to take their word for it that the "decision is in the mail" or that "it should be done by tomorrow". They repeatedly have asked me to get various doctors to fax information to them. So the doctor's offices are not very happy with me because they are running around trying to comply with each new request. I am frustrated with the amount of time that has been robbed from my kids because I am on the phone trying to get the insurance company to do something other than pass me to a new department who will also think it isn't their job to help me.
The earlier you get the helmet, the better. So this week I finally put my foot down and had them document in my file that I had to go ahead and get this done, and that their decision should backdate to when we had to go in. (We'll see how that works!) The man who does the helmets said he still recommended doing the helmet because if we didn't Asher could have jaw problems. They did a casting of his head. He had to have a cloth over his head while I held his arms and legs. They wrapped his head in a fiberglass cast. They mail the cast off to a specialized company to be made. We go back on May 1st to have it fitted. He will work up to wearing it 23 hours a day for four months. My hope is that the delay, which is partly my fault for not putting my foot down earlier, will not cause Asher lasting harm. He will have to wear the helmet in the hot months now, at an age where he is more likely to protest having something on his head. Those things can be overcome, though. I just pray that we make the right decisions concerning Asher's health.
