Asher came down with another fever yesterday. I took him in this morning to make sure he wasn't getting strep again. The strep test was negative and his ears were clear. The doctor said they have been getting a lot of kids with a fever virus lately. Normally I wouldn't have taken him in so quickly for a mid-grade fever, but I am wary of the strep that he has gotten several times recently. Thankfully, I was able to see Asher's primary care pediatrician even though it was Saturday walk-in clinic. He explained to me that the last time when Asher was sick and had so much trouble getting rid of the strep, what was making his fever stay so high wasn't strep. He said that strep is relatively easy to treat--that even the oldest antibiotics like Penicillin still are effective against it. So, either Asher had strep and something else, or he was just carrying strep (this happens in a small percentage of kids, where they are carriers but don't get sick from it) but was sick from something else. He has been acting like he has been feeling ok today (except for nap time) and hasn't run a fever since about 3 AM. I am glad I took him in, even though there wasn't anything the doctor could do.
The video below is Asher playing in the playhouse.
Asher sliding down the slide. What a big boy!
Asher has really "come out of his shell" recently. He has become more prone to laughter and finding things exciting. I don't know what caused it to happen suddenly, but I am thoroughly enjoying this stage, and hope he continues to find delight in things. The first time I really noticed him getting excited about something, he was on a kitchen chair dancing his feet up and down and giggling hysterically at himself (Ainsley and I have now dubbed this the "Asher dance"). This week, I was driving the kids home, and Asher was really sleepy. He was awake, but very subdued and glassy-eyed. Ainsley was listening to one of her Bible songs CDs (from Granddad & Grandmama). The song Father Abraham came on. I moved my right arm with the music (keeping all other limbs driving!), and Ainsley was doing the motions in her carseat. All of a sudden I hear Asher laughing. I look and he is totally awake, giggling, with limbs flailing everywhere. I got a huge kick out of that.

All the picture are so cute, but I especially liked Asher playing Peek-a-Boo in the play house. So cute!
I'm so glad that Asher's fever was just a virus and not strep again! and I'm so glad that you're getting to enjoy his little personality coming out!
