Bell Slough

Saturday morning, the weather was really nice, so we all headed out first thing in the morning to go to Lake Willastein. When we got there, there was a festival there, so we headed out to Bell Slough instead. (A slough (pronounced slew) implies an area of slow moving water such as a wetland, swamp, or inlet of a river.) We hadn't been out there since Granddad and Grandmama took us there awhile back. We walked on the shorter of the two loop trails--probably about a mile and a half.

At one point I was carrying Asher and I almost stepped on this guy. Which of course made me yell and run away to a safe distance. No, not all the way to the car! :-) We were able to watch him for a little while. We couldn't get the camera to focus correctly on him. My best guess from looking online is that he is a rough green snake.
One funny thing--I had Asher on my shoulders and he started saying, "uh, oh" over and over again. I didn't know what he was talking about until I realized that he was only wearing one shoe! I looked back on the path, and it had fallen right where he started saying, "uh, oh"! I don't know how I didn't notice it falling since I was holding his ankles right by my face.
