Adjustment

On Thursday, we took Asher in to have his cranial helmet adjusted because it was making a mark on his cheek. They bent it a little and sanded off some of the padding. It seemed fine Friday, but Saturday when we removed it for his 1 hour off, there was a welt on his forehead. It was more of an abrasion, I guess, but it didn't go away right away. Our instructions for when that happens are to leave the helmet off (even on the weekend), and take him in for an adjustment. After Ainsley's Kindermusik class (her last one for this unit) this morning, we rushed over to Children's hospital (my appointment was at 11 and class ended at 10:50!). He shaved off the part of the helmet that was right above Asher's ear because that was causing an abrasion, as well. He also heated the back part up and bent it a little closer to Asher's head to stop some of the sliding around that probably caused the abrasion on his forehead. We were there a long time. However, the rehab clinic is right by the front entrance, which has waterfalls, kid equipment to climb on, and kid activity puzzles. Ainsley was very good! Even though it was way past her naptime, she was patient. We left around 2:00 (we had to wait around to see if the helmet caused Asher to have any new red marks.) Asher zonked out in the car. On a side note, Ainsley had been given a balloon from her music teacher. I tied it to the stroller because I thought the heat in the van might pop it. When I went inside, they had me leave it at the front desk because there are children who have a severe allergy to latex. I knew that latex allergies are severe, it just had never occurred to me about bringing a balloon in.
