Ainsley has said some humorous (and slightly embarrassing things) recently, so of course I wanted to share.
**
One of Ainsley's classmates is moving out of the country (her father is in the military). I asked Ainsley where the girl was moving to. Ainsley said, "the state of Chicken!" (Translation: Turkey)
**
I took Ainsley to a store with me yesterday. We were the only 2 people in there. When we came in, the sales woman commented on what a cute girl Ainsley is. Usually Ainsley takes a little while to get comfortable talking to people, but this time she announced, "My name is Ainsley, and I am 3 years old!" The woman asked her again for her name because she hadn't heard clearly. Ainsley said it a second time. The third time the woman asked, Ainsley blurted out in one breath, "Ainsley, A-I-N-S-L-E-Y (spelling it out), Ainsley". Then she kept right on walking.
***
In the same store, they had some toys for kids to play with. Ainsley asked me in a loud voice, "Mommy, are those sick toys?" (I don't let her play with the toys at the pediatrician's office.)
***
The top story of the day: I was checking out at Sam's Club yesterday. Ainsley had a toothpick from a free food sample. The sales woman was right next to us scanning the items in our cart. Ainsley chose that moment to declare, "Mommy, I'm going to have a smoke!" All in the same instant, I saw the sales woman smirk, I stifled a laugh, I tried to find a rock to crawl under, I tried to come up with a way to not overreact, yet still deal with the issue, preferably within earshot of the woman. I asked her (in a voice just loud enough for the sales woman), "Ainsley, is smoking good for you?"
"No."
"That's right. We don't do that. I want you to think of something else to pretend."
Maybe someone else could come up with something better, but that was the best I could do in the moment!
This story made me think of a Scrubs clip from YouTube about parenting that made me laugh. It helps to know the characters (and only watch if you find sarcasm humorous!) :-)
