I read in one of my parenting magazines about this really great idea to let your 3 year old do. It said to give your child a big bowl of rice, some little bowls, spoons, scoops, a funnel, etc., and let them sit at the kitchen table and have fun. The article said to do this to give them something neat to do while you make dinner. It sounded like fun. It sounded like a reasonably neat activity. Here are the results:

This doesn't do justice to what the floor looked like! But Ainsley had fun, and mom kept her mouth shut! Ainsley even used our new vacuum to clean up the floor. So, bottom line, good idea, great for the back porch!

Hey Corrie, something we always did in therapy, and that might work a little better inside is to use big dried beans. We always used pinto or kidney, but if you could find even bigger ones I bet Ainsley could pick them up after she's done (and hey there's a little fine motor action built in there as well :)
We use dry pinto beans. I lay a small blanket on the kitchen floor and let Camille go to town. The only rule is she has to keep the beans on the blanket (at least try her best).
