One on one

Now that we have finally settled into a routine with Ainsley's school and Asher going to mother's day out once a week, I was able to enjoy some uninterrupted time with each kid this past week. Asher goes to MDO on Tuesdays, one of the days Ainsley is home. I did that on purpose so that Ainsley and I could have time together one on one.
On Tuesday, Ainsley and I dropped Asher off, and went to Books-a-million right after they opened. It was almost completely deserted, and we found out they have a Thomas train table with tons of trains. I sat and read a little bit while Ainsley got to play without tons of other kids taking her trains. She really liked that. She got to line them up exactly how she wanted. Then we walked to a little playground where she got to climb and slide for awhile. After that, we walked over and split a small yogurt from TCBY. Then we went to the mall and looked at shoes for her. She measures a size and a 1/2 smaller than what she has been wearing for months. After trying on a few pairs, I decided that she has enough room in what she has. Then we walked all over the mall, the only exciting thing about that being that we tried some hand lotion samples. Then we went back to the van and ate our packed lunch and headed to pick up Asher.
Today, Asher and I had an errand to run downtown right after we dropped off Ainsley. Then we found some free street parking by the River Market. It was around 8:40 and there were three empty spaces in a row. I mention that because I have a real appreciation for easy parking after our recent trips to NYC. Anyway, we were headed to the library, but we had 20 minutes to kill, so we walked around down by the river for awhile, then headed back up and watched a construction site where they were using a crane. We were really close, and he pointed and "talked" about it. Then we went to the library and got some new books. Some train ones for Asher--he loves to say "woo, woo" and "choo, choo". He got to run around a little there. Then we went home and played for awhile before we went to get Ainsley.
I enjoyed the one-on-one time with each of them. We didn't do anything spectacular, but we did have time together that was pretty much uninterrupted. I enjoyed that. I get the feeling a lot that I can't give either of them the undivided attention I would like to.

I can really relate and am so glad that you have found time to spend with each of your kids by themselves. It seems I learn so much about each of them when I can have time like that not being distracted by the others. It sounds like you guys had fun too. :) Oh, and I peeked in on the kids at school on Thursday. Ainsley was doing the nuts and bolts lesson and looked like she had really mastered it. It is really neat to have a chance to peek in on them and see what they do when they don't know you are looking. :)
