Stump

A few years ago, we had a dead tree in our backyard. Actually 3 trees, as was pointed out to me by someone wanting to charge me an arm and a leg to take it down. After the following picture happened, we decided we had better take action and get rid of the potential hazard to our home and family.
Jon, Granddad, Tommy, and Chad all worked one Saturday morning to fell the tree. I don't have any pictures. Somewhere I have a video of the tree falling, but not on my computer.
So, for the last two years, we have had a triple stump. Ainsley has climbed on it, used it to feed the birds and squirrels, and played on it. We knew it was getting soft and probably had termites. What we didn't know was . . .
when Jon was out in the yard with the kids on Saturday, he saw a nice, fat, black widow in it. Which brings me to these next pictures.
Bye, bye stump!
We don't own a sledgehammer, so Jon chipped at it with his shovel for awhile, then kicked it over with his foot. The black widow had scurried away and he never found it when he was breaking up the wood. Comforting, I know. I have always thought I am ok with any bug, as long as it isn't in my house. So I was wrong. I am ok with any bug behind a glass wall in a zoo! Or at least not in my yard. :-)

This is what the space looks like now. Hopefully that black widow has packed her bags and moved far, far away!
