Ears

Today was an interesting day. After a much needed but very difficult trip to Wal-mart, I got the kids back to the house. Asher was playing and slipped and hit his chin on the toy box. That cut the inside of his mouth with his teeth (speaking of teeth, he has 2 more coming in). It didn't bleed a whole lot, but it doesn't look like it feels good, either. Then, I was about to feed Asher, when I noticed something in his ear. It looked like dried blood. I immediately called the pediatrician's office (it was around 1:00). They had a spot at 2:00, so I took it.
Asher's ear was too blocked for the doctor to see in, but he said that his eardrum probably burst. He said that it is fairly common, and that it will heal fine. I asked about hearing damage and he said there shouldn't be any. He gave us ear drops and an antibiotic. Hopefully this won't be a recurring thing--we have some friends who have had lifelong problems with rupturing ear drums.
Asher never ran a fever, and was acting fairly normal, so I guess there isn't anything I could have done unless I was trained in looking for infection in ear drums.

Hello Albright family....on the ear problems...2 things: Have you talked to the doc about tubes? this did WONDERS for Amber. Asher may be too young for them though.
Another strategy is a chiropractor. I'm not too familiar with this, but some friends of mine went this direction. Their children were under 2 yrs of age and it helped if not corrected the problem. You may want to talk to the pedi about that as well and get an opinion from a chiropractor.

Amber's ear drum burst twice (if not more) and her hearing is perfect.

Even after have the tubes with Caleb and going through all his ear infections, both boys have had ruptured eardrums. So far they have all healed well and we haven't noticed any hearing loss due to them. It is hard to spot them at times. Praying for his healing and ease of any discomfort!
