Asher has decided that his nursing days are over. When he turned a year he was at 4 feedings a day. I gradually dropped feedings if they were clashing with his meals or snacks and if he seemed not to care either way. We had been at 1 feeding a day for a couple weeks--the bedtime feeding. I knew I could drop that one and he would be ok with it, but I wanted to hold onto it for a little while longer. Last week, he decided he was done. He was very clear--turning his head and crying when I laid him down to eat. I tried 2 or 3 more nights, but same reaction, so I haven't tried since.
I have been fortunate to be able to nurse both kids. My goal was 1 year with each of them. It came easier with Asher--with Ainsley I had a lot of trouble with infections so it took a whole lot more for me to stick with it, but I was glad I did. I think sticking with it also helped ease my experience with Asher.

Awww that's bittersweet, I'm sure. I'm actually glad you posted on this topic because I am in a similar boat and am wondering how you stop the bedtime feed. I guess, like Asher did, they will let you know, but Kerensa shows no signs of being ready to give it up. : )
